Chai Port Cafe in the heart of Johor Bahru is a no-frills coffee shop that leans into its busy, local vibe with a simple standing-only setup. Situated on Jalan Trus near Galleria Kota Raya and a well-known Gurdwara, it draws a steady crowd, especially during mornings and early afternoons when folks pop in for quick bites and their fix of tea or coffee before heading to work or nearby errands.

This spot serves classic South Indian-style tiffin items like idly, vadai, and bajji alongside strong, flavorful chai and coffee. The food is entirely vegetarian and straightforward, playing well to those who appreciate comfort snacks rather than elaborate meals. The chutneys and sides that come with the dishes add a fresh, homemade touch, and several visitors highlight how well the flavors come together, especially with their sweet and spicy dips.

Given its standing-only concept, the cafe suits those who don’t need to linger for long—a quick catch-up over chai or a brief stop before heading elsewhere. It can get quite crowded, so mornings during weekday rush or weekends might feel a bit tight, and parking nearby can be a challenge. Many locals suggest parking further away in lots like the Galleria to avoid street restrictions.

The atmosphere is lively and all about efficiency—servers move fast to keep the turnover steady in this compact space. It’s a spot where you’re likely to see office workers, temple visitors, and regulars from the neighborhood grabbing a quick snack amid the busy city flow. If you’re keen on sampling chai that’s more than just a generic brew and prefer a standing coffee shop that’s firmly part of Johor Bahru’s local pulse, Chai Port Cafe fits that bill.

Before going Malar poojai at temple, me and my friend decided to try the coffee and tea here. Well, it was delightful. We didn’t try any food, apparently they have breakfast, lunch and Tiffany, like sambar idly, briyani and bun butter jam. Do take note it’s a standing concept hence be mindful if you are carrying children with you. Other than that, you can try out their delicious drinks !

Located in front Galleria Kota Raya, same row with Gurdwara. Typically feel like "Kaiyenthi Bhavan" style. Collect and eat while standing. Options are tiffin, Bhaji, tea, coffee and Snacks. Food taste good. Place easily get crowded and stands little limited. Parking can be tricky and if u don't get a strategic parking suggest to park at Galleria or nearby paid parking as the area prone for towing. Price slightly above reasonable but worth the taste.

The tea here is excellent, and I really enjoyed the idly and thosai as well. The three varieties of chutney served alongside are all delicious and complement the dishes perfectly. Service is quick and efficient. I would highly recommend this place.

The food was amazing, tasty. The chai also super delicious. Reasonable price for the quantity and food. I ate mini idli, vazhakka bajji and chai. All were delicious. Plus all foods are vegetarian. Really loved the service. Very attentive. A must try place. Highly recommended.

Cool different feeling. Lot of people come to buy food and drink their tea. Not bad taste for coffee Hmm pricing wise a bit expensive probably because typical mentality sporran crossing border can pay so make it ex sad story. Carpark: weekend die ready no space good luck in finding space.

Stopped by to try the Chai tea. Ordered the masala chai which was really good. Could taste a medley of spices infused into the tea. Did not try any of the food but the food was flying off the counter with the rest of the crowd. Nice atmosphere and can get quite crowded quickly. Will be back.
